The end of a unique half term...

Good morning everyone,

We have reached the end of a unique half term here at Stow Heath. At the end of this half term, I wanted to write and thank you for your continued support in the safe return of your child to school. Overall school attendance has been exceptionally strong and is now at a similar level to last year.

I have been delighted to see students back in school, enjoying their lessons, socialising with friends and working closely with their teachers again. Our pupils are still enjoying a full curriculum working on the principal of a ‘recovery curriculum’ so that teachers can assess and act upon any gaps in knowledge.

As you know, this term, we had to implement a number of measures to ensure all pupils and staff could return safely following the lockdown. Although, some of the measures will have felt strange to our pupils at first, they should be applauded for the way they have adapted. They have approached the start of this school year with flexibility, adaptability, common sense and determination. I’d also like to thank parents and carers who have approached this situation with reason and calmness, and for the ongoing support you continue to offer the school at this time.

As with most schools, we have had a small number of our staff test positive for Covid-19. This has resulted in additional numbers of students being required to isolate and continue with their learning at home using home learning videos. This has been a completely new way of teaching for us and again, I wish to thank both parents and the teachers for their patience on this matter and for staying at home when bubbles were closed as a result of positive cases.

I'm pleased to share that the members of staff who tested positive are all showing signs of recovery and we look forward to welcoming them back to school. Unfortunately, this may not be the last time that school finds itself in this position. I expect this pattern to continue as we head towards the winter. However, I wish to reassure parents that we have measures and plans in place that will allow us to continue to provide a full education for those attending school and those learning from home as well as enhanced cleaning regimes that have been in place right from the very start of term.

It is also essential that all of us, as members of our school community, are aware of and adhere to, the actions necessary should a member of your household show symptoms of Covid-19 or test positive. I have attached the 'What to do if your child is ill' document again for reference.

During the half term break, I hope that both staff and pupils at Stow Heath have a well-earned rest and that they return to school fit and healthy. With this in mind, please can I urge parents to follow government guidance in minimising the risks to your child and follow the recommendations as listed in the local restrictions.

Although school closes today for the half term holiday, should any child or member of their household test positive over this period, please email so that protocols can be followed to ensure everyone's safety. This email address will be checked frequently during the holidays but should only be used to report a positive case.

As always, thank you for your continued support and I look forward to welcoming all back to school after the half term holiday.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs Scoffham
